My trip at Manchester
I went to Manchester for three days!
I had the opportunity to visit Manchester, in England, and I saw many interesting things.
One of the most unusual things I did was going to Manchester Magistrates’ Court to watch minor criminal cases. For example, there were cases about threats, theft, and companies that had committed tax offences.
It was really interesting. At first, we entered without being completely sure whether we were allowed to attend or not. In the end, we watched four different cases between 10 a.m. and noon. We also met the usher, a court officer whose role is to guide people, organise the courtroom and make sure that everyone involved in a case enters the room at the right time. 2 different magistrates also spoke with us, and they seemed happy to see French students interested in the English justice system.
The courtroom was organised like this. I made a small drawing by hand, so sorry if it is not perfect. 🙂
We were sitting where the arrow is. Overall, most courtrooms had a similar layout, but the size was different. We visited two different rooms, and one of them was clearly much more impressive than the other, especially because of its size and architecture. I added a photo, but the quality is not amazing because photos were not really allowed at that moment.
Anyway, it was a great experience! I had the chance to visit a court in England, even though I have never visited one in France yet. It is funny, but maybe that will be the next step. Another major activity during this weekend was a football match. Of course, I still love sport, so when I saw that Manchester City was playing that weekend, I bought tickets immediately.
Once again, it was a completely different experience compared to France. It was quite surprising because, in France, the atmosphere is usually much more intense and hostile. This match was important because it could help decide the Premier League title for Manchester City (At the time I am writing this blog, City lost the title and finished second)
I was sitting very high up in the Etihad Stadium, which was almost full. There were thousands of spectators. The stadium is huge and very impressive. In the end, Manchester City won 3-0 against Fulham without any real difficulty.
Another very nice moment happened when we entered the city’s cathedral. At the same time, an orchestra was practising for an event. We decided to sit down and enjoy the moment. The music was beautiful, and it made the visit even more special.
After that, we walked a lot. We did at least 15,000 steps per day, so now I feel like I know the city very well! I also added a small photo album. Looking at these pictures brings back good memories. The weekend went by very quickly. We met some great people and kept in touch with some of them, including Samuel, the security agent at the court, Lina, the receptionist at the hotel, and a very friendly Scottish man sitting next to us at the football match. I forgot his name, but we had a nice conversation with him. It was a short trip, but a really memorable one.
